Whether it’s at his ranch in Calaveras County, CA or in the Eden
or Barossa Valleys of South Australia, Matt Rorick believes strongly that winemaking is about site and quality fruit.
Originally Rorick sourced 100% of his grapes for Forlorn Hope,
and made weird and wonderful wines from across Napa, Sonoma and Sierra Nevada. Since purchasing his 75-acre vineyard in 2013 he has converted the site to organic farming. The vines sit at an elevation of 2000’ on limestone soils beneath a top layer of schist.
Rorick started Songs From Mars in 2017 while working vintage with good friend Jaysen Collins of Massena in the Barossa Valley. This first vintage saw Rorick acquire fruit from both the Barossa and Eden Valleys and the resulting wines catapulted Rorick into the Australian avant-garde winemaking scene.
