All natural vignerons have their quirky backstory and Eric Texier is no different. In an earlier career, the now cult Rhone producer invented the carbon fibre arrow. Insert witty bon mot about his wines also really hitting the mark.
Many will be familiar with these exceptional wines; for us it’s a very welcome return. For those lucky to be meeting Eric’s wines for the first time, he has rediscovered two almost forgotten southern-most appellations in northern Rhone: Brezeme and Saint-Julien-en-Saint-Alban, located west of the Rhone in the Ardeche department. Here his focus is trained on Syrah and Serine: the ancient family of Syrah vines grown by the selection massale method of propagation. They’re biodynamic, but not dogmatic.
In recent years Eric has teamed up with his son Martin and they have been vignifying their grapes on the outskirts of Saint-Julien-en-saint-alban. ( Watch this space – we’ll be importing those wines soon too).
